ValorBioCompost

The Situation

Eric, CEO and Master-Composter at ValorBioCompost, explains...

At ValorBioCompost, we have two ambitions: to change people’s minds about sorting and to give back to the soil what it gives us.

We want to make the public aware of waste recovery. A garbage can does not disappear like magic! A lot of things happen behind the scenes and it is important that people understand what is at stake when it comes to sorting bio-waste. We also treat and transform waste to give back to the soil the energy it needs to produce once again.

We work mainly with food and catering companies. In addition to educating our partners, we collect their organic waste to make compost.

All our containers were fitted with sensors, but we needed another solution to measure temperatures in an open environment, during the compost’s maturation phase.

The problem

Before Quanturi's Periskop, monitoring organic waste was a real ordeal

Manually monitoring waste temperature was taking us over two hours a day. We would move our manual probe from windrow to windrow and from batch to batch. We would leave it in place for 30 minutes to make sure we got the right temperature. At the time, we had four or five windrows to measure. We were spending way too much time on this, time that we could have spent on other tasks!

Also, the data we were measuring was not really reliable. How can we be taken seriously if we don’t even have permanent control over our waste? To reassure our partners and the prefectural authorities DREAL DDPP, and prove we are a responsible business, we really had to find a new solution.

  • Tedious manual operations
  • Measurements not always reliable
  • Uncertainty over our product quality

OUR SOLUTION

Periskop enables us to constantly improve our compost

The organic waste we process can carry disease. This requires us to be extremely vigilant.
In this respect, Quanturi’s Periskop helps us to guarantee the quality of our compost, by analyzing the data in detail and making adjustments if necessary.

Periskop’s magic lies in its meticulous and immediate temperature readings! Now we can monitor the temperature at the heart of the windrows in our different maturation units without leaving the office. The Periskop app enables us to monitor this data from our phone or tablet, wherever we are. This is a real bonus!

THE IMPACT OF OUR SET-UP

Periskop probes allow us to manage our site efficiently

I believe that Periskop is the ideal solution to optimize our compost quality. We can really guarantee quality for our customers using the data collected by Periskop probes. The reports are really well designed, enabling us to provide much more in-depth analysis than before.

We no longer have to think about collecting temperatures from our probes because Periskop does it for us! It makes our work so much easier because it is all done automatically, which really reduces our mental load. The icing on the cake is that Periskop saves us over two hours a day, which is the amount of time we were losing before!

  • Optimize your compost quality

The Periskop dashboards give us better control over our product quality. We can optimize our compost’s fermentation process. Ultimately, we all win: our customers get better quality compost, we meet the requirements set by health authorities, and our teams gain in productivity!

  • Meet health requirements

We are subject to increasingly stringent regulations. Periskop enables us to manage reports on compost fermentation monitoring for health authorities. This means we can prove our compost is of good hygiene quality and justify our actions to our partners and service providers.
