Periskop: a natural choice for Gilles from Veolia

At Veolia, we have always paid particular attention to the quality of our compost and the well-being of our employees.

To ensure the conformity of our production and to meet the increasing number of control standards, we had been looking for a new temperature measurement system for several years. We needed a more efficient solution that would be less dangerous for our teams (who had been used to monitoring temperature manually).

It was only after trying a number of more or less efficient alternatives that we discovered Periskop. Since then, I can finally rest easy: with each new production, I know that our compost will be certified and that my team members and our sites will be safe.

Before implementing Periskop as our plant’s only solution, we had tried everything. We started by installing thermal imaging cameras near the windrows and came close to disaster on several occasions. Smoldering fires that were a little too deep were not detected by the device, which caused major safety problems. We then decided to test wired probes but, in addition to regular equipment failures, we did not have all the necessary information to get our compost certified.

Periskop has been with us for three years now. I can check the temperature of my windrows directly on my smartphone at any time. In the event of a problem, my teams (who also have access to the data) can act quickly: whether for plant safety or compost compliance issues. When we undergo a compliance check, I can export all the data related to our production in a few clicks. What’s more, the application is regularly updated without even having to ask for it, and that’s great!

My teams and I all agree on this. At first, we were afraid we would have to get used to a new solution all over again. To our surprise, it took less time than expected. You can see that huge efforts are made to simplify user experience. We quickly got used to the way Periskop works. Today, we would never go back to the way we worked before.
